Kathy - Thank you for your suggestions! Unfortunately, I've seen all of those with the exception of Shining Through. I checked on rottentomatoes.com for reviews, and they aren't too favorable. I don't think I'd be able to find it available for download anyway. I will get Heat because that sounds very good. Much gratitude.

Kira:

Drama, mystery, fine acting, dialogue..... got it!

"Heat" has action, but the subplots with Pacino and his step-daughter as well as Kilmer with his family are interesting. The sub-plot with DeNiro and the woman from the bookstore adds a good dilemma to the cold screen character DeNiro plays. I won't say any more.

I'll stay away from recommendations on emotional/empowering/bonding woman movies for you (LOL). I rarely like "chick flicks" per se although the ones I recommended (along with a few others) I found to be thought-provoking and very well done. I don't like comedies at all since I never seem to think them funny.

If you've never seen "Forest Gump", I highly recommend it. I also suggest that you try "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schlindler's List" if you haven't seen those. If you have never seen "The Sixth Sense" I recommend that as well. I also enjoyed a hardly ever seen movie with Michael Douglas and Melanie Griffith (her only role that she actually ACTED in) in "Shining Through."

All of the above meet your criteria for movies, but that doesn't mean you will like them. Read the outlines on imdb (or any movie site) and see if they appeal to you. Let me know :-)

Hi Kathy - I loved the Notebook (of course) but haven't seen any of the others you mentioned. I think I'll pass on the Fried Green Tomatoes & Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I don't tolerate sappy emotional/empowering/bonding woman movies too well. On the flip side, I don't like too much action or visual junk that's there for the sake of being there. Heat sounds like a winner, so I'll see that soon. I like drama and mystery, fine acting, and lots of dialogue. Thanks for the recommendation!

Kira:

Scent of a Woman was one of my favorites from the 90's. I also love Pulp Fiction, but have never seen Reservoir Dogs. Have you ever seen "Fried Green Tomatoes?" It's got a lot of dialogue and plot. More of a chick flick, but well acted and an all-around great movie.

You might also consider "The Notebook" -- a more recent movie that tells a beautiful story jumping from present day to past life. Tear jerker, but great love story.

"Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" is also an incredible movie about living life and the true spirit of women.

I recommend "Heat" as well. Good plot, great acting from a stellar cast -- DeNiro, Pacino and Val Kilmer. Not your typical cops & robbers movie. This one actually has substance and meaningful sub-plots.
